INCOMPARABLE PETRIFIED
SEQUOIA COFFEE TABLE
Eocene – 50 million years old
Oregon
This is the end piece of a petrified sequoia log cut and polished to
a mirror finish and among the most aesthetic examples of a petrified
wood table available. The sides and bottom reveal the irregular, asymmetric
character one would anticipate in encountering the end of a log. A level
surface is accomplished through custom table legs of different lengths
matched to the log’s contours. The result is an object of extraordinary
beauty. The polished surface possesses a dominant earth tone palette
that enables this table to fit in a variety of environments. Swirls
of coffee and khaki with accents of milk chocolate and creams abound.
Providing a further accent is a contrasting ivory rim, which runs along
the log’s perimeter. The irregular base of the table provides a calm
organic sensation while the exterior of the log is dappled in a palette
similar to its cut and polished mirror surface. This is a matchless
specimen. Petrified wood occurs when trees are quickly covered with
silica-rich sediments that later seep into the trees and harden into
quartz. Coloration results from the presence of trace elements and minerals
in the sediments. Sized appropriately for a coffee table, and destined
to become a centerpiece of any room it occupies—or any collection it
graces. This is an exquisite example of decorative natural history.
